Appellate Tribunal rejects KE challenge to Nepra's revised tariff

ISLAMABAD: An appellate tribunal in Islamabad has rejected the K-Electric’s challenge to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA) revised tariff decision for the power utility.

The appellate tribunal upheld the revised rate of Rs 32.37 per unit tariff in its decision announced 11 months after the K-Electric’s appeal.

The tribunal turned down the power utility’s plea for change in the power tariff.

It is to be mentioned here that the NEPRA had issued a tariff of Rs 39 per unit in 2025. However, the regulatory authority later took a suo motu notice, suspended that tariff, and issued a revised rate of Rs 32.37 per unit.

K-Electric challenged the revised tariff before the NEPRA tribunal, which has now announced its decision on the petition upholding the rate revised by the regulator.

K-Electric, the sole distributor of electricity to Karachi, is reportedly facing financial crunch as banks have halted new financing and are rapidly recalling existing credit lines, ARY News earlier reported.
