Goods transporters hike fares by Rs5 following petroleum price increase

ISLAMABAD: The Goods Transporters Ittehad (GTI) on Tuesday increased transport fares by Rs 5 following the recent hike in petroleum product prices, ARY News reported.

The GTI strongly condemned the government’s decision to increase fuel prices and demanded an immediate end to the daily fixing of petroleum product rates.

GTI President Shahzad Awan stated that the Petroleum Minister had previously assured them prices would not be increased on a daily basis. He added that, based on this assurance, the association had postponed its planned countrywide strike for 40 days.

Reiterating his stance, Awan warned that if no progress is made with the government regarding their demands, the association will call another nationwide strike.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification announcing an increase in the petrol price and diesel rate for one day, ARY News reported.

According to the notification, the petrol price has been increased by Rs12.90 per litre, taking the new petrol price to Rs358.77 per litre.

The diesel rate has been increased by Rs3.72 per litre, with the new diesel rate fixed at Rs381.77 per litre.
