Peshawar mystery: CCTV footage reveals no man accompanied mother, daughter

PESHAWAR:  The police team investigating the killing of a pregnant woman in Danishabad visited the crime scene for the second consecutive day, ARY News reported.

The police investigation team inspected the crime scene and checked CCTV cameras installed at nearby shops.

The team also obtained footage from four more cameras, including the CCTV camera installed at the emergency gate of Khyber Teaching Hospital.

According to the investigation team, none of the available CCTV footage showed a man accompanying the mother and daughter.

Investigators said the mother and daughter did not obtain an entry slip from the hospital counter and remained at the hospital for several hours while waiting for someone.

Police are investigating which doctor examined the mother and daughter at the hospital.

The investigation team is also questioning family members and searching for the mobile phone used by the deceased woman. Police said the phone will be sent for forensic examination if recovered.

The post-mortem report of the woman has not yet been received. Police said the report will also be checked to determine whether she was given any prohibited drugs before the murder.

The woman’s mother has been arrested in connection with the murder, police said.

A day earlier, the 17-year-old girl was found hanging from the tree while her mother, who first termed it a suicide, later admitted that she “only helped her daughter” commit the ghastly act as she got pregnant out of wedlock.

Upon further investigation, the mother said that her daughter wanted to commit suicide after failing to abort the child she conceived without getting married.

Police have booked the mother in the murder case and have assured media that the case will be properly investigated as an honour killing.
