Punjab Assembly passes resolution against prolonged power outages

LAHORE, August 28, 2026: The Punjab Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution against prolonged electricity load shedding in the province, ARY News reported.

According to reports, the resolution was presented by government member Ahsan Raza and was approved unanimously.

The resolution stated that one segment of consumers is being given relief in electricity bills.

Meanwhile, opposition member Rashid Tufail pointed out a lack of quorum in the Punjab Assembly. The panel of chair directed that bells be rung for five minutes.

Power outages have increased from Lahore to other parts of Punjab amid a rise in the country’s electricity shortfall.

According to the report, load shedding continues across Punjab. Residents in Lahore said electricity is being switched off for one hour after every one hour.

Sources said the shortfall faced by LESCO has crossed 1,200 megawatts, while the country’s overall electricity shortfall has exceeded 4,000 megawatts.

Sources said the shortfall remains relatively lower during the day due to solar power generation, with around 7,000 megawatts of electricity being generated from solar sources daily.

According to NTDC sources, electricity generation from several power plants has declined. The delay in an RLNG shipment reaching the port may further worsen the gas crisis, sources said.
