Transporters demand Govt to comply agreement over diesel price mechanism

KARACHI: The Goods Transport Owners Association on Saturday rejected the hike in diesel price and demanded immediate implementation of the government’s agreement with transporters.

“The government had inked a written agreement to change the diesel prices mechanism,” President owners association Muhammad Awais Chaudhry said.

He said the government should end daily change in diesel’s prices and fulfill its promise of 15 days duration.

“The adjustment of fares has been impossible over daily change (hike/reduction) in diesel prices,” he said.

“In case of hike or reduction in diesel price, transporters could not promptly change fares,” Awais Chaudhry said. “This issue creating problems for the transport sector”.

He said the government should follow the written agreement with transporters during the strike. “The 15-day mechanism to regulate diesel prices should be enforced as early as possible,” he said.

The 15-day mechanism of prices will provide stability to transporters’ business planning, he added.
