Lawyers observe strike against petrol price hike in Chakwal

CHAKWAL: Lawyers in Chakwal on Saturday boycotted court proceedings in protest against the recent increase in petroleum product prices.

The strike was observed on the call of the District Bar Association Chakwal, with lawyers refraining from appearing before courts as part of their protest against the fuel price hike.

The lawyers also held demonstrations and demanded that the government withdraw the increase in petroleum prices.

They said the rise in fuel prices was creating additional difficulties for the public as well as the legal community. They warned that higher petroleum prices would increase transportation costs and lead to further increases in the prices of daily-use commodities.

The District Bar Association urged the government to reverse the increase and provide relief to the people.

The government on Friday increased the price of petrol by Rs5.02 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs5.28 per litre. Following the increase, the price of petrol was fixed at Rs375.82 per litre.

Petrol price hiked again as OGRA issues notification

Meanwhile, a constitutional petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the recent increase in petrol and HSD prices.

The petition, filed by Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, seeks directions to the government to withdraw the recent price hike and provide immediate relief to consumers.

The petitioner contended that petrol and diesel prices had increased by more than Rs30 and Rs25 per litre, respectively, within a week.

The petition further argued that petroleum prices in Pakistan were higher than those in several other countries in the region and called for the government to disclose the complete price build-up formula for petroleum products.
