Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has reportedly resigned from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) national selection committee, according to sources

The development comes amid major changes to Pakistan’s Test setup following heavy defeats against England in the first two matches of the ongoing series. The PCB recently released seven players and two members of the coaching staff ahead of the third and final Test in Birmingham.

Reportedly Resigned Over Selection Process

Sources say Misbah decided to step down after he was not consulted regarding the selection of players brought in as replacements for those released from the Test squad. He reportedly communicated his decision to the PCB via email and is expected to complete a notice period before formally leaving the committee. 

The PCB has not yet issued an official statement confirming Misbah’s resignation or outlining the reasons behind it.

Major Changes to Pakistan’s Test Squad

The PCB’s latest overhaul saw Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad released from the touring squad. 

Several players were subsequently called up as replacements for the final Test against England, which is scheduled to begin on September 9 at Edgbaston.

The coaching setup was also reshaped, with Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul released from their respective positions. White-ball head coach Mike Hesson has taken charge of the Test team, while Ashley Noffke has been appointed bowling coach.

Misbah’s Brief Return to the Selection Setup

Misbah-ul-Haq joined the national selection committee in March 2026 alongside former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed as part of a revamped selection structure. His reported departure comes only months after returning to an official role within Pakistan cricket.

Misbah previously served as Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector and remains one of the country’s most influential former captains.

His reported resignation adds another layer of uncertainty to Pakistan cricket’s ongoing restructuring as the team prepares for the final Test of the series against England.
