PTI leader Sanam Javed files for divorce

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sanam Javed has approached a family court seeking a divorce through khula from her husband, Atiq Riaz.

Following the filing of the petition, the family court issued a notice to her husband, seeking his response.

In her petition, Sanam Javed stated that she and her husband were incompatible and that their differences had led to several problems in their relationship. She said she could no longer continue living with him.

She has asked the court to grant a decree of khula, allowing her to end the marriage.

Javed married Atiq Riaz in 2009, and the couple has two children. She is currently in prison in connection with cases related to the 9 May 2023 violence.

The court has scheduled the next hearing of the case for 25 November 2026.
