ECP warns MPs: Declare assets by Dec 31 or face suspension

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday directed all members of parliament and provincial assemblies to submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities, ARY News reported.

The ECP has set a deadline of December 31 for lawmakers to submit details of their assets and liabilities for the financial year 2025–2026, reflecting all possessions held as of June 30, 2026.

The election body clarified that lawmakers are legally bound to declare the assets of their spouses and dependent children as well.

Names of lawmakers who fail to submit their declarations by the December 31 deadline will be published on January 1, 2027.

The ECP will allow a final grace period until January 15, 2027.

Following this date, non-compliant members—whether serving in the Senate, the National Assembly, or any of the four provincial assemblies—will face immediate suspension.

Suspended lawmakers will be barred from participating in any assembly proceedings until they fulfill the requirement.

Furthermore, the ECP warned that strict legal action will be taken under corrupt practices laws if any submitted asset details are found to be false.
