ISLAMABAD: A severe staff shortage has been reported in government hospitals across the capital, ARY News reported.
The Federal Ministry of Health has presented details in the parliament regarding vacant positions in government hospitals.
According to health ministry documents, at PIMS—a major hospital in the capital with a sanctioned capacity of 852 doctors—only 467 doctors are currently performing their duties.
Furthermore, out of 1,093 sanctioned nursing positions, 363 vacancies remain unfilled, and 215 positions for paramedical staff are also lying vacant at PIMS.
Regarding vacancies at Islamabad’s Polyclinic Hospital, the health ministry stated that 90 doctor positions, 45 nursing positions, and 104 paramedical staff positions are currently vacant.
Additionally, 17 doctor positions are lying vacant at the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM).
Meanwhile, 131 doctor vacancies, 129 nursing vacancies, and 163 paramedical staff vacancies are unfilled at Sheikh Zayed Postgraduate Medical Institute.
Furthermore, 10 doctor positions and 27 nursing positions are vacant at the Federal General Hospital.
Additionally, the District Health Office is facing a staff shortage, with eight doctor vacancies and six nursing positions lying vacant.
