Islamabad fire brigade vehicles found to be 20 years old

ISLAMABAD, August 28, 2026: Islamabad’s fire brigade vehicles are nearly 20 years old, with the last major purchase made in 2006, sources told ARY News.

According to sources, China will provide Islamabad with 21 modern fire and rescue vehicles under the 2024 Pakistan-China MoU.

The value of the fire vehicles and equipment being provided by China is 72.31 million Chinese yuan, which is around Rs3 billion in Pakistani currency, sources said.

Islamabad will also receive a modern snorkel fire tender for rescue operations in high-rise buildings.

The new fire vehicle will be capable of carrying out rescue operations at heights of around 88 metres, while Islamabad’s existing fire tenders can reach only up to 68 metres.

This will increase Islamabad’s fire and rescue reach from 68 metres to 88 metres.

Sources said the new fire vehicles are expected to arrive in Pakistan in September.

The last major purchase for the CDA Fire Department was made in 2006, sources said.

The new vehicles will help make firefighting and rescue operations in high-rise buildings more effective.
