Ministry of Health orders comprehensive fire safety audit of government hospitals

ISLAMABAD, August 29, 2026: The federal Ministry of Health has ordered a comprehensive fire safety audit of all government hospitals, including PIMS, under its administration, ARY News reported.

According to the directives, fire safety arrangements at hospitals under the Ministry of Health will be reviewed in detail. Fire detection systems, alarm systems and firefighting equipment will be inspected.

The availability of emergency and exit routes will also be part of the fire safety audit. Hospitals have been directed to conduct a detailed assessment of electrical and other potential fire hazards.

PIMS and all other hospitals have been ordered to immediately begin fire safety audits. Any deficiencies that pose a risk to human lives or property must be addressed immediately.

All hospitals will inform the Ministry of Health about the company conducting the audit and the expected date of completion after starting the process.

The Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has also been directed to ensure fire safety audits at government and private hospitals. IHRA will verify fire safety audits at public and private healthcare institutions.

A comprehensive report on compliance with the fire safety audit orders has been sought by the Ministry of National Health Services.

The Ministry of Health has directed relevant authorities to take immediate action by giving priority to fire safety issues.

Fire safety audit orders have been issued to PIMS, Polyclinic, FG Hospital and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore.

Orders have also been issued to the CEO of the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority and the District Health Officer Islamabad.

The Director NRM and Director BHSP Karachi have also been issued directives regarding the fire safety audits.
