Mayor Karachi takes notice of theft of steel bars from Nazimabad underpass

Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has taken notice of the theft of steel bars from the Nazimabad Underpass and directed the Engineering Department to immediately commence restoration work and complete it at the earliest.

Following the Mayor’s directives, the concerned department has started restoration work on the affected portion, according to a statement on Wednesday.

He said that any act of damaging public infrastructure would not be tolerated under any circumstances. The protection of flyovers, underpasses and other important infrastructure constructed for the convenience of citizens is a top priority.

He said that damaging government and public property or stealing its components not only causes inconvenience to citizens but also affects the functionality and usefulness of development projects.

He directed the officers of the Engineering Department to complete the restoration work of the Nazimabad Underpass within the stipulated time and ensure that due attention is paid to the quality of work.

He further said that assistance from law enforcement agencies should also be sought for the protection of flyovers and public underpasses so that those involved in damaging public assets could be discouraged.

The Mayor of Karachi directed the concerned officers to review the condition of all important public infrastructure across the city and take immediate measures wherever enhanced security arrangements are required.

He said that the municipal institutions would continue to fulfil their responsibilities to provide citizens with safe and better transportation facilities, and no negligence in protecting public projects would be tolerated.
