PTI's long march will not be allowed to enter Islamabad: Rana Sanaullah

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has called on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities and extend full cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Earlier, government-side sources had claimed that PTI had accepted the government’s demands and agreed to cooperate fully on matters relating to terrorism.

Speaking to media after the PTI-govt talks ended in deadlock, Rana Sanaullah said the government could not compromise on matters related to terrorism and urged the KP administration to play its due role in countering the threat.

He warned that any attempt to create unrest would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. Rana Sanaullah also said that the long march would not be allowed to enter Islamabad.

He further stated that no date had yet been set for the next round of talks.

Government-opposition talks aimed at averting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned October 4 long march towards Islamabad ended in deadlock on Saturday, with the two sides failing to reach consensus on key issues and no agreement yet on when the negotiations will resume.

Sources also said that PTI remained reluctant to accept the government’s position on the counterterrorism strategy. They added that if no progress is made on counterterrorism issues, the parties will not move forward on the remaining matters either.
